Create Star Shaped People Pockets with craft felt in just about 30 minutes with just a few simple supplies. Perfect for a non-candy classroom or summer craft project.
MATERIALS:
- Craft Felt – White, Red, Tomato Red, Light Blue, Brilliant Blue, Neon Blue, Candy Pink
- Wiggle Eyes – Dollar Store
- Chenille Stems – Shades of Blue, White, Red – Dollar Store
- Marker, Black – Permanent – Dollar Store
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Dollar Store
- Pinking and Scallop Shears for Fabric
- Scissors
- Ruler
- FELT STAR POCKET PEOPLE PATTERNS
- PATRIOTIC SAYINGS FREE PRINTABLE
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Download STAR POCKET PEOPLE PATTERNS, print and cut out. With a marker, trace the small star and the large star patterns onto each of the six red, white, and blue colors of craft felt.
STEP TWO
Cut out the large star patterns using pinking shears and scallop shears for fabric. If you don’t have pinking shears, cut fun patterns around the edges with straight scissors.
TIP: Cut inside all the traced lines for a clean, finished project.
STEP THREE
Cut out the small star patterns with scissors, making sure to cut just inside the traced line for a clean finished project.
STEP FOUR
Match up large and small stars in pairs. The kids will love using a variety of fun color combinations for these star people.
STEP FIVE
Cut the 12” chenille stem into four equal 3” lengths with scissors. Cut stem in half and then cut those two sections in half again. Bend the ends of two sections of chenille stems into legs with rectangular feet and the other two into arms with circular hands.
Attach the arms and legs to the large star felt bodies with a glue gun and glue sticks. Use the photo as your guide.
STEP SIX
Attach the small star to the large star with a glue gun and glue sticks, making sure to leave the top of the star open to create the pocket. If crafting with younger children, liquid craft glue works, just figure in drying time.
STEP SEVEN
Cut one half inch by one half inch squares from Candy Pink craft felt and then trim those squares into circles with scissors to make cheeks. To create the face, attach two cheeks and two wiggle eyes to each felt star with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP EIGHT
Using a permanent marker draw a semi-circle smile onto the Felt Star People Pockets from cheek to cheek. If crafting with the kiddos, use a washable marker.
STEP NINE
To finish, download the PATRIOTIC SAYINGS FREE PRINTABLE. There is a red page and blue page, so printing on a color printer is best. Cut out the patriotic sayings with scissors or a paper trimmer.
